In 1952, William Dunavant Jr. came into Dunavant Enterprises as a junior partner and soon became a full partner in 1956. With the death of his father in January 1961, 29-year-old Billy Dunavant took control of the company. It became a more aggressive and innovative operation, with the company becoming one of the first to go into "forward contracting," whereby a farmer agrees to a price for a crop before it is planted.
W. B. Dunavant and Company participated in the first sale of U.S. cotton to Mainland China in November 1972 and has since participated in additional sales, including the largest individual sale – and largest sale by any company - in history to China in October 1990.
Dunavant Enterprises was ranked by Forbes Magazine as 60th among the 200 best small companies in America. Among the Forbes 500 largest private companies, Dunavant Enterprises was ranked 100th in 1989, 110th in 1990, 76th in 1991, 83rd in 1992, 108th in 1993, 98th in 1994, 76th in 1995, 68th in 1996 and 104th in 1997.

CEO and President, Dunavant Enterprises, Inc.
William B. Dunavant III, a University of Virginia graduate, is Chief Executive Officer and President of Dunavant Enterprises, Inc. and a member of the Executive Board of Directors for Dunavant Enterprises, Inc. in Memphis, Tenn. His work has included extensive travels throughout the world over the past 25 years, which included living in Asia for more than two years, as well as Europe. He started Dunavant's Australian operation, which saw the construction of three super gins with capacity of more than 300,000 bales.
He currently serves on the board of Memphis University School, New Memphis Institue, The National Advisory Board of the Jefferson Scholars Foundation at the University of Virginia, and The Baptist Hospital of Memphis Advisory Board.
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Kelly began his employment with Dunavant Enterprises, Inc. in 2015. He has a Masters of Accounting degree from The University of Mississippi. Prior to joining Dunavant, Kelly served as the Director of Corporate Accounting and Financial Reporting Systems at ABB's Thomas and Betts division. He has also served as a Senior Manager for KPMG LLP, where he managed the external audits of multi-national public companies and private companies in various industries.
Kelly is currently on the Executive Board of Directors of Dunavant Enterprises, Inc. and serves on the Board of Junior Achievement of Memphis and the Mid-South. Kelly is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in the State of Tennessee and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
John Dobson Dunavant
Senior Vice President
John is currently Senior Vice President of Dunavant Enterprises and a member of the Executive Board of Directors. He formerly served as the head of domestic sales operations and Southeastern cotton buying.
John received a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural economics from Clemson University. He also attended the Memphis Leadership program, Memphis Cotton School and the National Cotton Council’s Leadership Program. He formerly served as president of the American Cotton Shippers Association (ACSA) and Atlantic Cotton Association.
Vice President/Director, Marketing and Business Development
Woodson is part of the fourth generation of the Dunavant family to work for the company. He worked across the globe specializing in cotton trading from 2001-2009 and spent four years in equipment leasing. Woodson currently serves as logistics sales and business developer for Dunavant, focusing on the international market.
He is a member of the executive board of directors for Dunavant Enterprises, Inc and is on the board of directors for the Memphis Cotton Exchange and the Memphis Cotton Museum. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in finance from Auburn University.
William O. Hagerman
President of Dunavant Development Co. Board of Directors and Senior Vice President of Real Estate Operations
William began his employment with Dunavant Enterprises, Inc. in 2000. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from The University of Memphis in Memphis, Tenn. and is a registered professional engineer in 14 states.
William founded the multidiscipline consulting engineering firm ETI Corporation in 1982 and served as President, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Chief Environmental Engineer for 18 years. Prior to ETI, William was Vice President of the consulting engineering firm of Gregory Grace & Associates where he worked for 8 years. William serves on the Board of Directors for a number of public and private companies and charities, and is on the Board of Advisors for the Herff College of Engineering at The University of Memphis.
Chief Operating Officer, Dunavant Global Logistics Group
Richard is currently Chief Operating Officer for Dunavant Global Logistics Group. Richard has been in the global Logistics and Supply Chain industry for over 25 years with specific industry experience in automotive, specialty retail, consumer products, and agricultural commodities. For the last 5 years he has provided the vision and leadership in building Dunavant’s logistics division into a recognized global logistics service provider. Formerly, he has served as Vice President of Supply Chain for the Fortune 300 retailer, AutoZone, and Vice President of Global Logistics for Williams-Sonoma.
Richard serves on the Executive Board of Directors for Dunavant, has served previously as Board Chairman for 2 years, and on the Board of Trustees for Bridges USA for 10 years. Additionally, he serves on the Board of Tankspan Limited, LLC, Board of Trustees for St. Georges Independent School as Vice Chairman, and Board of Trustees at Concord Academy
Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary
Russel has been a member of Dunavant’s legal team since 1988. He provides legal advice for Dunavant Enterprises, Inc. and its subsidiaries, including personnel, real estate and contracts. Russel graduated from The University of Tennessee - Martin in 1976 and received his Juris Doctorate degree from The University of Memphis in 1980.
Senior Vice President of Tax
David began his employment with Dunavant Enterprises, Inc. in 1978 after gaining four years of experience with the tax department of a multi national agricultural commodities merchant. Prior to this, he had been a member of the tax staff of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Co., a "Big 8" accounting firm that has since been merged into the current "Big 4." He received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Mississippi State University in 1971. David is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants as well as the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants.
